NEW BOOK: BUSBY'S JOURNEY ON THE LEARNING CURVE

Busby

Janam Publications Inc., publisher of SABMag, has teamed up with Busby, Perkins + Will to publish the new book, Busby: Learning Sustainable Design.

Authored by SABMag editor, Jim Taggart, the book is a retrospective of Peter Busby’s experience and pioneering work in the area of sustainable design over the past 20 years. A founder of the Canada Green Building Council, Peter Busby is one of the earliest proponents of sustainable design in Canada, and has applied its principles consistently for longer than most.

A foreword by Dr. David Suzuki, and an essay by author Jim Taggart, set the scene for the 12 works that make up the body of the 144-page book. Two final essays conclude the book. In the first, entitled Looking Back, Thinking Forward, Peter Busby describes his start, experimentation, and fully-fledged commitment to the path of sustainable design. He collaborates with LEED Accredited Professional Kathy Wardle in the second essay, Green Building in Canada – A Brief History, that gives a helpful review of how green building has evolved in Canada.

The main body of the book consists of 12 of the firm’s projects spanning the years 1994 to 2004. As a body, the projects trace an advancing level of sophistication in the application of sustainable design. Thorough text, strong photography, and beautifully produced drawings communicate a complete understanding of each project, some of which many readers will recognize.

Through example and inspiration, Busby: Learning Sustainable Design, will serve the interests well of anyone seeking insight and instruction on how sustainable design is being practised and where it may be heading, at least from the perspective of one of the leading practitioners.
